Talimali Band the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana

Preserving the History and Heritage of the Apalachee Indians in Louisiana Since 1763

We’ve Been Active in Central Louisiana for Over 258 Years

The Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana represents a continuation of the historic Apalachee Indians of the southeastern United States. The Apalachee Indians have a documented history in Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, and their cultural heritage continues today through preservation, education, and community leadership.

Our tribe has held cultural gatherings in Central Louisiana since the 1950s. Chief Gilmer Bennett served from 1957 to 2015, and leadership continues today through his successor and son, Arthur Bennett. Through ongoing projects, education, and documentation, we remain committed to preserving the history and traditions of the Apalachee Indians.
