The Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana is dedicated to upholding the traditions, history, and cultural legacy of the Apalachee people. We work to preserve our tribal identity and honor the generations who came before us.

 

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that the Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana is recognized for its integrity, cultural preservation efforts, and commitment to protecting Apalachee history and heritage for future generations.

What We’ve Achieved

  • The Talimali Band formally filed for federal recognition in 1996 and has continued documenting the historic continuity of the Apalachee people in Louisiana.

  • We have operated as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 1995, supporting educational and cultural initiatives for the Apalachee community.

  • The name “Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana” is federally trademarked, protecting the identity and legacy of our tribe.

  • We’ve been featured on the TV show History Detectives.

  • We were featured in the documentary, “They May Be Saints,” by the Catholic Church.

  • We have collaborated with historians, anthropologists, archaeologists, genealogists, and museum professionals to research and document Apalachee history and cultural artifacts.

  • We are working with state and federal officials to ensure that Apalachee ancestral remains are respectfully reinterred in accordance with cultural and legal protections.

  • We were instrumental in the Native American scholarship program in the state of Louisiana and we are the only non-federally and non-state recognized tribe allowed to participate.

Scholarship Program for Apalachee Youth

The Talimali Band of the Apalachee Indians of Louisiana offers scholarship assistance to eligible Apalachee youth pursuing higher education. Supporting the next generation of leaders is central to preserving our tribal future.
